So Today I was googling ragtime quilts and up popped my blog. That is the first time that has happened. And I haven't really been up keeping this blog anymore since I now have a Facebook page, and keep a blog about my family. It's just too much computer time and with two kids there are not many spare minutes. Denim purse with Flower Yo-Yos

Today I was lucky enough to have the majority of it to myself. My hubby took Cody out for the day to get him out of the house so I could have a quiet day. I first cleaned the house (much needed)and spent a little time outside to cut the grass. Actually I just needed to do something outside, because it was too nice to pass up. The sun was shining, which something we have hardly seen in the last 4 months. Anyway after that I spent sometime figuring out a layout for a new baby quilt and I put together this cute medium sized purse. I used some old jeans for the denim and finished the inside with a funky and colorful quilting cotton. It's the same one that I used for the strap etc on the last denim bag I posted. I also used this cotton to form the flower yo-yo's on the front of the bag. They are super cute!

I hope to get several more bags done soon. I am going to have a table at a local area craftshow at the end of November. It's in a small community called LaCorey. I am excited and nervous. I always am when I put things on display! Likely I will eventually get this bag listed in my Etsy shop. For now it's here!

Farm Animal Baby Blanket

It's been a long time since I have made something a posted it. I guess I kinda got out of the groove of sewing this summer. I find it hard to stay focused when there are just soooooo many things to create and make. And being anal-retentive, I feel like I should stick with some type of thing or theme. So really I just stew and make myself crazy!

Either way, I did finish this fun and funky rag-time baby blanket. It is the 3rd in a 3 part series ordered by a friend of mine. You might recall the pretty yellow bug/ and pink one and also the sweet blue check/ cowboy one that I made already this year. This one is the final one! And I love it.

The funky farm animal print is fun for either a boy or a girl and the yellow makes it bright and friendly! I hope the new baby...expected early October...will enjoy cuddling up in it! Thank you to my friend S.C. for ordering these blankets. I enjoyed making them for you!

A long time ago I mentioned that I would be partaking in a big fundraiser called the Weekend to End Womens Cancers. I spent the last several months preparing by raising over 2000.00$ and walking to try to get somewhat in shape for the event. It took place in Edmonton on Aug 7 and 8 and it was awesome. I have never done anything like this before and I am so happy that I did it.
I was going to do it alone, but in my travels before the event I found out that my neighbour, Michelle was also doing this event in recognition of her mother who died of breast cancer. So I decided to team up with her, her sister Kathy, and their neice Carie. I am so happy I did. It was great to have their support and to support them. It wasn't an easy task to beat the pavement and withstand the high temperatures. The heat was what made it so tiring.
Anyway we completed the event and were still smiling at the end despite sore legs and tons of blisters. Here are some pictures. I am so proud!

Little Helper

Ahh it seems like it's been a long time since I posted anything that I have made. Truth is I haven't made much of anything lately. Adjusting to work has been one thing, but also planning Cody's birthday and trying to spend lots of time outside while it's nice has taken up most of the time. I love the sun, so when it is shining I try to enjoy it.

I am just in the process now of getting my other blog printed. This was the blog I made just for Cody, as a way of journalling our first year together. So I went to blog2print.com and put my book together. I think it is going to awesome to have this. I admit since I started it, I didn't keep up with the other baby book that I had originally bought!

Anyway I am both happy and sad to be finished with that blog. I think I will start another one, that will sort of continue on with what I was doing for Cody, but perhaps it will include other types of pictures of our life. I think I will reserve this one mostly as a personal and crafting blog, and the other can be for the whole family (including any new additions that might come along)!

The day before yesterday I decided to get started on the final baby rag-time quilt that was ordered months and months ago. I have already finished the blue one and the pink one which I posted previously. Now this one is green and yellow since this couple won't be finding about the sex of the baby. It is due in September so I still have lots of time to complete it. But I thought hey, might as well do it now. I am feeling rather unmotivated lately to start any new projects (more on that later). Anyway I love the fabrics I chose for this quilt. The funky farm animals are so much fun, and the colors are bright and playful. Also, here is a picture of my little helper.

Rather than stand at the table and have him pull on my pant legs, I decided to pull him up on the table. The result: quilt squares flying everywhere! It was cute!

Number 1 Birthday

So yesterday was not only Canada Day, but also my little boy's FIRST birthday. I decided to go with the flag cake idea because I thought it would be fun. Also, he is too young to appreciate a horsey, tractor, or other type of cake. He's only one so he really had no clue what all the commotion was about. Green and Dark Denim Purse

Here is a purse that I finished last night for a custom order. The lady who ordered it, saw another in my shop that was similar and requested these fabrics. Turned out cute! The flower accent is pinned in place but is removable if she wants to move it to another spot on the bag.

Khaki and Black

Well after thinking that I never wanted to sew another thing in my life, I think I am getting my groove back. The thing is that I started (and now finished) a large rag-time quilt as a gift quite awhile ago. I should have known better. I know that I don't like to do huge projects but I did it anyway and was feeling uninspired for awhile and not at all interested in sewing.

However, last night I cleaned off my machine and table and got busy making this bag for the lady who works at the post office in St. Lina (yes there is a post office there). She wanted it as a gift for someone.

Anyway in just over an hour I whipped this up!! Yeah that's the kind of projects I like. Quick and dirty. Okay not dirty, but you know what I mean. I hope she likes it. It's not going in my etsy shop since it is a private sale outside of etsy. But I thought i would post it here.

Loving Nature

Today as I was out and about, I decided to grab my camera and take some pictures of the things in my yard. I love flowers and plants and I actually have quite a natural and planted assortment here.

It was such a nice day today. I am really appreciating the sun, since it has been such a rainy June so far. It was warm and sunny.

So aside from taking a bunch of pictures of baby today for his blog, I snapped a few of some pretty things!

The planter is actually an old freezer compartment to a fridge I think. I noticed something laying in the bush one day as I was walking down the driveway. So I pulled it out. My husband thought I was crazy, but I really like the look of it. So we washed it up and I planted some flowers in it! I love it!

Just a little update

When I first started this blog, I sort of started it just about crafts and posting things for sale. I didn't know (still don't) how to build a website for this purpose. Every now and then I would post a little thing about me and my life, such as being a mommy, trying to shed poundage etc. My focus was still crafts though.

Now after reading other peoples blogs, and learning about what helps a person sell on line I have decided to incorporate more of my life into this blog and not just post things for sale. I have almost completed my 1 year blog for my son, so I think I might be able to find a few extra minutes here and there to update this one. And also put some sweat and tears into my etsy shop. Things aren't moving fast there, but I know it's because there is so much to learn and I don't have a clue where to start!

Anyway I am so tired tonight as this was my first week off maternity leave and back at work. I have decided just to go part time, but it has still been a huge adjustment. I am very happy with my decision. I find I am relaxed since I have a wonderful sitter, and my son is doing so well! I feel very lucky today!!

Horseback Saturday May 15

On Saturday we went horseback riding most of the day. It was a lot of fun, but I am paying for it now! My rear and shoulders are ultra sore! But that's okay. I need to get in riding shape for the trail ride on the 29th. It's a fundraiser, and is 26km long. This ol' horse Buck, needs to get into shape too. He hasn't been rode much in the past 10 years.

Les and I decided when we acquired these horses we would try to ride them since we have them anyway. We have had a few rodeo worthy episodes...mostly involving Les and not me! But they are starting to come around nicely. Actually Buck is so gentle that I can pretty much slack the reins and just relax.

All in all it was a good day! Nice and relaxing!

Here are a few new things I have made in the last while.

The bag I made for a customer using the pattern 2750 I have listed.

I didn't have any really nice synthetics to work with at the time, so this is more of a pratice one. I went to the city on the weekend and dug around in the bargain bin. Found some goodies to make more of them in the coming days.

I have so much on the go right now. I have to go back to work in a few weeks and I think I have created more stress right now than having to go back to work. I better get grounded!

New room! New Inspiration!

Ahhh I haven't had much time at all to post lately. I think I have made myself too damn busy! Anyway about 2 weeks ago, my mom took my baby for the day and I had the day to myself. I decided that I wanted to paint my sewing room downstairs and jazz it up a bit. Or basement isn't finished, but there is one room that is sorta done. It was the previous owner's sewing room and now it is mine. It's the only space in the house that I can have to myself that I can leave a mess and it doesn't show!

Anyway I painted it, sewed new valances and curtains for the closets instead of doors. I also had my hubby put up a new light so that I can actually see what I am doing now. I just need to get the trim boards up and a door hung and it will be complete. Well except for decor items which I will add as I find things I like. I actually need to have some bulletin or design boards up too.

So this is what it looks like so far. Nothing too fancy, but it is much cozier now and feels more like a part of the house than just some random chilly room. It really is cold in there. So I brought in a space heater since it is easier than lighting a fire every time I go down there. I am sure it will be a welcoming coolness when I summer comes.

Green Bananas: Use for Scraps etc

Over the past few months I have been saving my scrap pieces of fabric in a bag. These are the uneven edges I trim off, pieces that I can't use for anything else, also ripped items like sheets or other bedding or linens whatever. It can all go in the bag instead of throwing them out!

And what can you do with this stuff you ask? Lots of things. these scraps are great to fill items like a pet bed...which is what I am going to do with mine for Maxi-moo who needs a new bed outside. It beats buying an expensive bed, that is going to get very dirty and wrecked eventually!

You can stuff pillows (cut it up though so it's not lumpy), pin cushions etc.

When Max's bed is complete I will post a picture, and likely a tutorial for do-it-yourselfers. It's very easy! For now, here is a picture of us and Max. We were trying to take some maternity/family pictures of my husband and I. BUT Max kept pushing his way into the pictures. Finally we gave up! Look at how happy he is!

Warm Wuzzie in Beautiful Aqua

AHHHHH I just finished this sweet little warm wuzzie yesterday afternoon. I just love it! I think any baby, whether a boy or a girl would look so sweet and toasty in it! I am just listing it in my Etsy shop right now, but couldn't resist posting some pictures of it here. I love the sheen to this baby yarn. I am not usually a fan of baby yarn but Bernat has this one...Softee Baby which is pleasant to work with. I ran two strands to keep it thick and squishy!

I only wish my little one was still small enough to fit into this one! Ah, maybe the next baby. I will have to make another one!

Little Diddies

I am off to take a nap right away but I wanted to add something to my blog.

Check out these sweet little fabric flower shaped yo-yos I made!! Aren't they cool! And they are so easy to make with the right tool. I will have to get the exact name of it, but I found it at a quilt store in Sherwood Park. It's actually a yo-yo maker. I didn't know there was such a thing. The best part is that it takes all the hard work out of it, and you can whip these off very quickly.

Anyway I think they will make great additions to some of the other things I already make.

Also, you will notice in the side bar that I have my Etsy mini available. If you click on it, it will take you right to my shop.

Too Tired to Think

I just have a moment here to write a little post. I am so tired. My son has not been sleeping well for a few weeks now, and it's really starting to wear me down. I am not sure what it is. Last night he spent the night at my mom's, but I still didn't sleep well. I have been so used to getting up, that now I get up automatically. One thing though is that we do see a little spot on his gums that looks like a tooth coming through. Maybe that's the culprit. I am not sure. I haven't had much time to sew, which kind of sucks since I am a little behind on a few things. I have also decided to open an Etsy shop. I am not sure how that will go. It does take some time commitment to add things etc. Hopefully it will all work out....the sleeping I mean so I can start to feel normal again!

Rag-Time Homespun

Awhile ago I mentioned that I had purchased some new fabric called "Homespun Fabric". Here are a few pictures of it. Aren't the colors great? I actually really love the country feel the colors bring forth. I can't wait to start that project. I am actually awaiting another order from http://www.jublieehomespun.com/, since I decided that I would use these colors to make a blanket for my brother. I needed more than I had originally ordered. I also order some different colors in pinks and blues to make a few more baby blankets. I can't wait to get them in! They are going to make such beautiful baby blankets!

Flower Power

I spent a little time playing around with a few new flower patterns that I found on Crochet Pattern Central this weekend. These are "carnations" and can be found under the flowers category in the Free Pattern Directory. I fool around with the pattern that was written there, and adjusted the size a bit. I made some smaller and some larger. I love the way they look and can't wait to accessorize something with them soon!

Welcome Warm Wuzzie!

Hi again!

I am really excited about the last little project I hooked up in the last few days. Remember my baby snug? Well I changed it a little and called it something else. It's now my little Warm Wuzzie. This one pictured here is the most recent one with I embellished with some pom poms made to look like dandelions. Isn't it sweet? The body is made of worsted weight, acrylic, dark brown yarn. The embellishments are done in a soft yellow, and medium green. I am pleased with how it turned out.

It should fit a baby anywhere from Newborn to 4 months. After that good luck keeping a little wiggle worm in there! That's why I had to roll up a blanket inside...there's no way my baby would fit or sit still!

I will like post a tutorial later showing you the basic steps to the Warm Wuzzie. I am thinking of submitting my pattern to Crochet Pattern Central which is a website I love. I highly recommend it if you are a crochet lover looking for patterns. They are all there, and they are FREE!

Playing Catch-up

I have been away from my computer for a bit since I had to take it back in for a virus fix. It really bugs me that there are viruses out there that my antivirus doesn't pick up!!! I really didn't even do anything. I just did a search and bam this thing came up saying that I needed to update my security. And they really get you because it looks as if it is coming from your computer and not the internet. My advice DON'T BELIEVE these scams. It has already cost me!!!

Anyway now that I have my laptop back I can catch up on all the things that I have been wanting to post for awhile and the new things. This week has been crazy with the weather. I think it was on Thursday I went for a nice long walk with all the dogs, and baby and didn't need to wear a jacket. It was windy but really nice. Then over night I somehow ended up at the NORTH POLE. We had a huge snow storm blow in and now it's winter all over again. Look at the pictures I have posted. All the snow had melted, even the chickens were out pecking away at the ground. Then look at that snow pile! It was drifted so much that I couldn't open the patio door.

Oh and what I fine time for my cat to get stuck in a tree. The wind was blowing so she probably got scared and didn't come down. I don't know how long she was up there, but yesterday I heard her crying so I went looking. There she was!!

Spring into Spring #2

I have posted a picture of this quilt before. But this is a much nicer picture. This is a rag-time style quilt made from 2 different pink flannels and 1 dark brown flannel. I was probably not functioning on enough sleep the day I bought the flannel and I didn't buy enough!!! So anyway I improvised and went with a tie style quilting, instead of sewing the sandwhichs together. This uses less fabric. I now know how to properly calculate the yardage needed for these type of quilts so I won't make that mistake again!

Anyway this quilt will fit flat inside the crib. A very stylish starting point for your baby girls room decor!

Spring into Spring

Ahhh today is a nice day at the beginning to April! Finally I feel like Spring is here. I decided to go outside and retake some pictures of some crib blankets that I have made. These are all FOR SALE!

Citrus-cicle!- This sweet little blanket with fit in a crib. It was made with left overs of some fun and beautifully bright colors of flannel that I wanted to use up. My mom helped me finish it up since I was bogged with a few projects. She tied it nicely with orange and green yarn. I love it. It is so cheerful that it is sure to put even the crabbiest baby (or mama) in a good mood.

Easy Rag-Time Baby Pillow with Initial POST #1

This is a fun and super easy project you can do in very little time. It can also be a great way to use up a few odds and ends!
To further make this a "green project" stuff your pillow with all the left over scraps you have in your sewing room. Or if you have an old pillow that you don't use or like anymore, make this project to cover it and give it new life! HAVE FUN!

1. Select a fun flannel from your stash for the body (front and back) of your pillow. Also select a contrasting color for the letter you will sew on the front. For the letter you can use craft felt, denim or another fabric of your choice.

2. Cut fabric to the desired size with RIGHT sides OUT and wrong sides together. Be sure to allow for approx 3/4 inch seam allowance.

3. Using a word processing program on your computer, select a font and the letter you want. Increase the size to as size that will fit onto your pillow. Print and cut out the letter.

4. Place the paper cut out onto the fabric you picked for the letter. Make sure you orientate it properly so that when you flip the fabric to the RIGHT side, the letter is correctly positioned.

Easy Rag-Time Baby Pillow with Initial POST #2

5. Center or orientate the letter on one piece, the front, of the pillow. You can baste this in place to help keep it from moving while you sew. Or you can use a heat bonding product between the letter and the pillow fabric and iron it down. (see photo below). It will now stay in place while you sew.

6. Sew around the edge of the letter. You can use an applique stitch, zig zag stitch or a straight stitch. OR if you prefer, you can hand stitch it with embroidery thread. Get creative!

7. Once the letter is sewn in place clean up any thread ends. Place the front and back pieces of the pillow together, with WRONG sides together and pin in place.

8. Starting approximately 2/3 rds of the way down on one side begin sewing leaving the 3/4 inch seam allowance. Continue to sew around the entire edge of the pillow leaving an opening on the side you began with.

9. Using sharp scissors or fabric snips, snip the edges (seam allowance) approximately every 1/4 inch. DO NOT cut through your seam. Do this all the way around the pillow.

10. Stuff your pilllow beginning with the far corners and working your way toward the opening. Stuff the closer corners well.

11. Pin and sew the opening shut.

12. To get frayed or worn edges, the pillow should now be washed and dried. NOTE- if you think that your stuffing will get lumpy after washing, then wash the casing first to fray the edges. Press with iron, stuff, and sew shut.

NOTE: It is not recommended to have soft items such as pillows and stuffed animals in the crib with a sleeping baby. Always remove these items before putting baby to sleep. These decorative pillows look great on a rocking chair, or atop the dresser. Also a great car pillow! ENJOY!

Baby Boy Blue Quilt

Here are a few pictures of the squares I have cut out for a baby boy quilt. This quilt is being made to order for a friend. I will post pictures of the finished quilt later. Each square has been cut from cotton flannel and each is 6 inches by 6 inches. Once all the squares are cut, I build the fabric sandwiches that will form the quilt. Top layer- blue patterned flannel, Mid-Layer- some type of batting cut 1 inch square smaller, Bottom layer- backing fabric.

Once all the sandwiches are formed then the quilt is pieced together! Yay! That's the fun part!

Here's a funny thing about the name of my blog "Hannana-bananas"...I actually HATE bananas. I despise them! Everything about them, their smell, taste etc! So why did I name my blog this, well it's because it's a nick name that people have given over the years rhyming my name and bananas. So I thought hey, why not? It's fun and different.

I am starting a new little subsection or label on my blog. It's called Green Bananas. In this section you will see ideas for keeping sewing and other craft projects "green" or a little more environmentally friendly. I will show you different projects that you can do with scrap fabric and other rif-raf you have hanging around the house. So enjoy! These projects are easy to do and have little cost involved. The best part is they use up all the odds and ends you don't know what to do with. OR gives you a reason to save those odds and ends.

Pink/Yellow for baby girl

Here is that quilt I mentioned in the last post! It's all done, washed, frayed and ready to go. I have to say that this is probably the nicest one I have done so far. I found it easier since I took my time (and I have learned a few things)!! I didn't really follow all the steps through before, because I either didn't have enough fabric or was in a hurry. But this one turned out really well. I am really pleased with it. I hope the lady who purchased it likes it too. And of course I hope the little baby who receives it enjoys cuddling with it too!

Have you found that carrying your balls around is awkward? Well it is...and really it's usually only one ball. Your exercise ball that is! Ha Ha what were you thinking? Anyway I have looked over a few samples of exercise ball bags and have now sewed my own together. I just need to do a final check with an actual ball since I don't have one here. Then I can know for sure if I have made it the correct size.
The idea came from my friend Kelsey who said her mom had to search high and low to find something to carry her exercise ball. She ended up ordering something from the internet which is quite nice, but a little pricey. So Kelsey thought that I could probably sew some up since I am such a whiz with these things you know.

And I did! Yippee it actually doesn't look too bad. So I will try it out on a ball soon and let you know when they will be for sale.

Like I said I am tailoring my creations to babies and mommy. But this bag fits since it can be used for birthing balls as well, which really is the same poop different pile right?

Here are a few pictures of a rag time quilt I am currently building! It is for an order and is going to be for a baby girl. I loved these fabrics because they are bright, but not too bright as the customer had asked for. Yet they are still fun and full of color. I think she will like them. The finished quilt should measure approximately 48" x 48". So it is a good sized blanket for a baby or small child.

One thing that I have been getting emails about is the cost of my quilts. How much does a quilt cost? Well it's hard to say. You see, all fabrics range in price. Even within the same type of fabric there are many different prices. For instance I went shopping for more flannel this weekend. Prices ranged from 6.50 per meter to 17.00 per meter. So I can only give you an estimate of the cost.

Example

A baby size quilt that measures 48" by 48" requires about 2.1 meters of fabric per layer of fabric. My quilts have 2. If the average cost was 13.00 per meter it would be 4.2 x 13 = 54$ The fabric cost would be 54$. That doesn't include the work involved in putting it together. Now I haven't timed myself to see how long it takes but I will let you know as soon as I do.

So please consider this when deciding to order a quilt. The thing is handmade does not necessarily mean cheaper. Fabric and supplies are expensive. But the end result is something more valuable than what you find in stores. This is because it's unique and well made.

My Product Focus

Well being at the fair this past weekend, I was so interested to see all the families toting along tiny babies, toddlers and little ones to the event. It was so nice to see all these growing little people.
One thing that really caught my attention and my interest were the people who were carrying handmade diaper bags, slings, and much more. And after talking with several exhibitors I got to thinking about focusing my products to create this business.
One thing I have found that in this area of the province...rural Alberta...there isn't much for clothing shops for adults or children. And there certainly isn't anywhere that you can buy much for baby...even a stack of receiving blankets etc. Well that is unless Wal-mart has it and that is what you want to buy.
I met one really nice lady who is starting her own specialty home based baby store because she has found the same thing.
Anyway many of the things I already enjoy making are based on baby and children such as the blankets, totes, baby crochet items etc.
So I have decided I am going to try focusing more to mommy and baby. Being that there isn't much around here, I might have some good luck!
Of course I can still make things that are not related to this theme, but I have to focus and start somewhere, otherwise I will just have a hodge podge of many different things with little purpose.
So if you are following you many see a bit of a change here. But one thing that won't change is my funky twist on making things for baby. I am a little less traditional in that I like funky, bright, bold things, rather than soft pastel baby colors. Hey babies see bright colors better anyway!!

So you will see some great bags that will make totes the beach and books, but also great funky diaper bags for your little monkeys!

You will also see some more unique quilting with fabrics that are not so common place. I have found a new thing that I think I am going to love (awaiting an order). It's called homespun fabric...more on that later! You are going to LOVE it!

Of course I am going to keep my hook weaving as I crochet some hot it hats and snugs!

Baby Love

Here is a picture of my love. MY LIFE!!!! Well that also includes my hubby Les, and the rest of our little family who have 4 legs...Billie and Gingi and Max. But this one is the sweetest. I love that smile!
He is what got me starting with blogging in the first place. I started a blog just for him and our first year together as a family. Then, from there I started this blog. So far it's mostly been posts of all the things I make and create, but I would like to eventually get it going to be a little more about me and my life. Right now I am a bit too busy to think about journalling much on this blog but I am trying.
If you have been following you know that I am on a journey to lose baby weight and excess pounds. I have been losing steadily since December 1, 2009. Really it hasn't come off quickly but that's okay, at least it's coming off. And maybe then I won't have that rebound effect that has happened to me before. Anyway I am still trying to get to my goal which is actually is pretty big...50 lbs!! That's lots!
I have begun my training for my 60 km walk in August and everything is going well. The fundraising is a little slow. Many people have generously donated, but I have lots to earn yet. There have been people who say that they will donate, but haven't yet so we'll see I guess. I know I have probably done that to people in the past. Ooops! I just hope that doesn't happen to me now. I don't usually join fundraisers for the fact that I don't like asking for money, but I needed some inspiration and motivation to lose the weight and change my life style to a healthy one.
I am a lone ranger now. I originally was going to be part of a team, but none of them want or are able to do the walk now. Oh well. I will have to be brave, meet people, and/or crank up the ipod! It's going to be a cool experience anyway. I haven't done anything like it before.

Well I want to write about a few more things here but I think I will end this post here and try to post again tomorrow. I have been doing some thinking about my crafting/sewing and how I want to tweak my focus a bit.

Saturday's Trade Fair

Well Saturday I spent the day in Cold Lake at an event called Family Fair. It was the first one ever so it's brand new. Anyway things didn't go as well as I had hoped. Mostly because it wasn't very busy. I was quite disappointed since I worked really hard to get so many things ready and didn't get to sell much. There were a number of things that I think deterred people from coming but I am not going to go into that. Either way at least I got out there, met some very nice people and got to network a bit.

Most of the things I had made prior to the fair are still here and for sale. This includes many bags, 3 baby quilts and over 20 fabric flower hair accessories. So if you are reading this and are interested in any of these things please feel free to contact me! I have posted previously, many of the things that I made. I just have to tweak the posts a little so you know what is available!

Mommy loves big bibs!

I hate that many of the bibs you can find in the store are so small. They are great when baby is very young to clean up a little milk dribble and maybe catch some drool. My baby is a real drooler! But when it comes to meal times, they just don't cut it.

I had found a bib at a garage sale which ended up being the best bib of all...because it actually covers him! So I traced it out onto some paper, then began to sew! And voila! Here is a bib I like, and I am sure you moms out there will too!

They are big, soft, and made of flannel. I have yet to find a suitable waterproof material for the back. Some plastics are nasty. So when I do, I might modify I bit. But for now, these absorbant-buddies are my best friend.

Cancer Fundraiser

Okay now that the little guy is in bed I have a few minutes to write down a few things. First, I mentioned in my last post that I will be at the Family Fair in Cold Lake on Feb 27. I have decided just to do the one day since I don't have very many items made. I hope it doesn't end up being a total flop for me, since I don't have much to show. I have been sewing steadily, when I can, to have some things to sell and display. But it's really hard to do that kind of thing with a little one. Oh well, that's the way it goes, and it's only because the pressure is on to have things done by then!

Anyway, moving on, as some of you know, I am doing a cancer fundraiser this year. I am participating in the Weekend to End Women's Cancers on August 7 and 8, 2010. I will be walking 60km in Edmonton. I have been so fortunate so far to have people who have donated money. I have raised $200 of my $2000 dollars. That's exciting!

One especially exciting thing that I am doing to raise some more funds is making and selling fabric flower accessories. So far you have seen them on some of my bags. But now I am attaching them to hair elastics, and clips too. These look awesome in your hair and also on your wrist, as you can see in the picture above. All of the ones for my fundraiser will include the color pink, since that is the representing color. But I am going to add some other colors in the mix too.

I am selling them for $3.50. That might sound a little steep, but keep in mind all of the money will be going toward my cause. So essentially I am donating all the time it takes to make them and the cost of the materials.

They really are a bargain. When was the last time you were in the mall and saw such a unique and pretty accessory for a great price AND a great cause?

Recently I was asked if I wanted to particpate in Family Fair which is a trade fair happening in Cold Lake at the end of the month. The link is http://www.idoweddingplanning.ca/. Of course I was not prepared because I had not heard of it. Now I have been trying to sew like a mad woman to have a few things for my display. Here is what I have made so far.

The crib quilt is pink and brown, with tied pink yarn and is rag time style (frayed edges).

The Left overs quilt is a topper I made out of left over pink and brown flannel. I didn't have enough to make another patch work.

Sorry I don't have time to write too much exciting detail since my Cody wants my attention!

Here is another version of Simplicity Pattern 2750, the same as the one I posted earlier made with the pink and white circles fabric.

And the Sarah purse is one I made my own design with, by modifying another pattern. It is similar to the Pursey pattern but has a rounded bottom.

Easy Purses

Here are a few more purses that I have finished. They are for an order which also includes the blue Pursey one that I posted earlier. Sorry ladies they are all sold! But I can easily make more and plan on it! Making these bags was fun and easy. For the one with the circle fabric I modified the pattern to include a zipper. I haven't done this before. It was a little tricky but it turned out fine. I think I will now be able to add zippers to more of my bags.

Hooray! I answered an ad on Kijiji and scored myself a great number of fabrics! This nice lady local to the area is moving out of her farm house and is trying to get rid of 13 boxes of fabric! Most of it wasn't stuff that I could really use, so I couldn't clean it out for her. However, I did add a lot to my stash. Most of it will make great bags, but are just plain single colors. Plain colors are a good thing sometimes though. I can add a bunch of unique embellishments instead of relying on a bold pattern. Stay tuned I will be posting a new selection to choose from!

These are the fabrics that I currently have in my stash. As you can see I like bright bold colors that stand out. However, every now and then a more subdued piece will catch my eye. Most of these fabrics are medium weight. They are a little stiffer, which helps in holding the structure of a bag. Lighter weight cottons can be given more body by adding interfacing, so if you happen to like the feel of quilting cotton or something similar it can still be made into a bag. Keep in mind that some of the larger prints do work better for larger totes such as a book tote or diaper bag. I usually line all of the bags I make with a plain neutral. However, if you would like a reversible bag, I can put print on both sides.

I haven't been able to post lately due to a sweet little baby of mine who is teething! Let the fun begin! Anyway, since I don't have too many new pictures, I thought I would post some pictures of the patterns I have available to give some ideas of what I can make. I will also be posting pictures of the fabrics I have in my stash. I am hoping to visit a few fabric stores by the end of the next week, so by then I hope to have a few more. Bare with me!

SometImes I modify patterns to make them a bigger or smaller size, and I also come up with some ideas of my own. You really don't need a pattern for some basic bags...just some imagination. If you already sew and you are just wondering what pattern I used so you can just make your own, I have listed the pattern numbers. I can't credit for their invention anyway!

Pretty Purse

Hey!

I just finished this purse last night...isn't it cute! I got the pattern from a magazine called "Quick Stuff to Sew" by the publishers of Threads magazine. You can get more info also at craftstylish.com. Anyway, this mag comes out once in awhile and has great projects for those of us who like quick gratitifaction! This purse was super easy (once I got my orientation correct), and fun to make. It has a velcro closure with a fabric flower embellishement. The flower is only pinned on so can be moved around or taken off if desired. This pattern is very very versatile. I am getting started on another version soon!

I think this bag would look super cute with jean caprics and a summery top!

Computer Troubles

AHHHH! I am having such computer troubles. I think my laptop has I virus, I don't know where I picked it up! Honestly I have found that free sites don't just come free...they bring with them junk like viruses.

I first found that out when I used to download free music on my desktop computer. I had to get it repaired several times and it never was the same. So now I only download from itunes because it's safe.

Now, I don't know what I did. I was searching for free digital scrapbooking stuff and I must have picked it up somewhere there. MY ADVICE, just pay for things!!! It's cheaper and less frustrating than dealing with repairs and a sick computer. I am so frustrated. I have a newsletter to complete for work and I can't get that done.

Anyway I should be able to post new pictures and things soon when my computer is fixed! ta ta for now.

I found some great bag patterns at the store the other day, including some diaper bag patterns that I can't wait to try out!!

V- Tote Bag

Hey All

I have finished another bag and it's ready to go. I modified an existing pattern that I had and made it my own. For this I used sorta a vintage looking heavy fabric for the outer and a regular lining fabric. It is a medium sized tote with a fabric strap. I wanted to dress it up just a little so I tried my hand at a fabric flower and pinned it to the bag. You can find out how to make these great little add ons at www.hellomynameisheather.com. I have a link for Heather Bailey in the side bar. Anyway, the flower is pinned on so it can be removed or moved to a different location on the bag.

I don't have any models handy to show off my creations, but luckily Billie was willing to get in on the action. He is never far from my side and I often trip over him around the house. He's a little shortie and with him and Gingi around there is never a dull moment.

Anyway, he made a great last minute model (he works on short notice) although I could have probably stuffed him in the bag quite comfortably.

Anyway tomorrow I think is going to have to be a house cleaning day. Time to go through the place with the vaccuum, mop, duster and everything else needed to get this place spic and span! Keep checking back for more creations coming this way!

Tied Bag

I just completed this bag yesterday amoungst a lazy day. I just was feeling kind of blah, but I kept myself occupied by finishing this project. It turned out okay, but I think the next time I make one I would make some adjustments to the straps. I found that once I tied them they then seemed a little short. So I will lengthen them next time.

The finished size of this bag is approximately 15" wide by 10" tall by 4" deep (from front side to back side). So it makes a great purse to throw your wallet and a few items in. It is constructed from cotton, and is lined. I admit that it has a few minor gliches since it was my first one, but if you don't take a magnifying glass to it, you won't even know!

It's been awhile since I have been able to post. It's that time of year when people are running around visiting, celebrating and eating! As you know I am trying to get my weight on track since having my baby and I was doing really good before the holidays. But I have to admit I fell off the wagon over the past two weeks which is a shame. I am back on it today though, striving to lose that first 10 pounds.

Over the last week I was able to deliver another set of hats and scarves to my cousins who are die hard Oilers hockey fans. They specifically ordered durango hats, and scarves in Oilers colors. I think they look awesome don't you?

I am still plugging away at a few more crochet orders, then I think I am going to switch gears for a little while. I have some sewing projects that I would like to try a hand at. I am planning on sewing some more bags to add to the tote I have already posted. I found some funky fabrics at Ikea that I am going to use, so stay tuned for those!

Also, because I am not already busy enough I have decided to join a fundraising event that will also help me drop the weight I am lugging around. I am joining the Weekend to End Women's Cancers which is a 60 km walk over two days in Edmonton. I have to start training fairly soon and also fundraise the money needed to enter. I will be posting more about it soon so stay tuned. Also stay tuned for my bag creations!

Quick Update

Phew! This week has been so busy, since Les isn't home. I have lots to do with baby and everything else around here. I haven't had much time to post. I have been crochetting like crazy trying to get an order done of 5 pieces. Yesterday, I almost finished one of the touques, but then I realized it was ugly and took it all apart!

I have been baking, making pyrogies (and yes my friend ditched me)! You wouldn't believe how many pyrogies I made. Thank goodness my mom helped for a bit. I don't know I have to order do it when I decide to make something! I did the same thing last year with fatires.

Well anyway I have lots to do today. I will update soon with new completed projects and pictures! Happy holidays.

Weigh in today

Today I have lots to do! For some reason my kitchen is a disaster...hmmm what's with the dishes!

Anyway, this is my crafting blog, but I do a little personal stuff here too. So as some of you know I have been steadily working toward my weight loss goal since Dec 1. Today I weighed in and I have lost 5lbs! Yippee! I know it doesn't seem like much, but is a definite start and 5 lbs less to lose! I am happy because since Cody was born I haven't seen that scale budge at all.

I have a lot more to go. But after the next 5 lbs I get $100. That is my treat to myself. For every 10 lbs that I drop I am putting aside $100 for new clothes once I reach my goal. It's a good motivator.

So far what I have been doing is my new exercise dvds and watching what I eat. I have cut waayyy down on my cereal addiction. Because if you know me, you know that I could eat cereal for breakfast lunch and supper! Now I only have it at breaky, and I stick to the correct portion size. I have also upped my fruit and veggie intake.

The other bad habit that I kicked to the curb is my Diet Pepsi fetish. Both my husband and I love DP and were drinking it steady. I think was counted that I drank 5 cans in one day!!!!! That is ridiculous. So I kicked the can in the ass and said bye bye! Now DP's are only a treat once in a while. I have had only 2 can in 2 weeks, which is really good for me!

I feel better already and am really proud of making healthier choices. I don't know when I let things get so out of hand. Anyway here's to another week. We'll see what the scale, body and mind say next Monday! Ta Ta For Now!

Orange Crush

Yesterday amoungst the normal day-to-day activities, I managed to complete a baby blanket! I made it for a friend whose baby could be being born as we speak...I am not sure! She was feeling like the baby might come at any time, but I haven't heard anything yet.

This was a great project to do because it was so easy and quick. Instead of using squares of fabric, I just chose a print and used one big rectangle for the center. Then I bordered it with some fun funky orange flannel. The back is green, and tied to the front throughout the quilt. This tying method is quick and not nearly the work as actually machine quilting. I sewed the front and back in a envelope style so that the edges are finished and not ragged as they are in the middle.

I am really pleased with the way it turned out! It was fast and fun to do. I love that baby stuff now can be any color. And orange is a fun color to work with.

Well as I mentioned in a previous post, crochet isn't the only craft I like to do. I also really like to sew. One thing that is fun and quick to make is a tote bag, or really almost any kind of bag. Totes can be made in so many different ways, all different sizes etc etc etc. There's no end to the possibilities.

I made this tote in a bigger size for a cousin who is a school teacher. It is big enough to fit her 3" binder and a few other things. Along the outside are several pockets to put other items in such as a water bottle, pens, etc. A bag like this is also great for a beach bag, diaper bag, or overnight bag.

I haven't made very many since because I have been busy with other projects. Hopefully, once the new year comes and I catch up on crochet orders, I can put it aside and make some more bags. I found a program online to build simple bag patterns so I am hoping to print some off and make several different styles of bags. They are a great accessory and are very functional. AND you can never have too many bags.

Busy Busy

The orders are coming in and that's great! I am really happy about it. I have quite a few things to make before Christmas and even a few after.

Sometimes with a little baby it's hard to find time to do everything. But I just have to capitalize on nap times and when I can slip and few stitches in here and there! Either way it's fun to be busy. I have always felt that when I get bored I start to get down or just feel blah. When I keep busy I feel happier because I am able to focus my energy.

Today we did a few things around the house...switching around our living room. It looks way better now...more like a living room.

I also started working toward my ultimate goal today. I really need to lose a lot of weight from my pregnancy and before, so I am getting my ass in gear. I ordered some dvds and they seem great. I have started already today, and am carefully watching what I am eating. I have really had enough of being overweight like this, and I am sick of wearing the same two pairs of pants!

I have a long hill to climb. But I am feeling upbeat about it. I want to stay focused. Well anyway I will jot down any progress I make. Here goes nothing! Well hopefully a lot of poundage!

Tonight I finished another Love style scarf for an order. I picked a rich chocolate brown and a taupe color that I thought worked well together. In the end it looks good enough to be a chocolate bar! I used the regular stitch that I usually use except this time when making the stripes I decided to vary the size of the stripes. So some are one row wide, some are two or three rows. It makes it a little more interesting I think. Anyway I am pretty happy with the way it turned out. I think next time though, if I use chunky yarn again I will use a larger hook. The scarf is a little stiff due to the thickness. It should soften with wear. It will definitely be warm!

Sew Special

As I said in my previous post I love to make ragtime blankets. Here is a special one that I made just for my new baby.

The story is that I hunted all over to find the perfect crib bedding while I was waiting for my baby to arrive. The trouble was that everything I found that I loved was just too expensive. I really didn't see the necessity of spending $250 or $300 dollars on a crib set. Especially since they included bumper pads which most people don't use anymore anyway. I kept hunting, but the cheaper ones just weren't very nice. I was really disappointed.

Anyway I finally decided that I would just make the blanket and cribskirt myself. Everything turned out great and honestly I don't think I spent more than $50 on the whole thing. I ended up with a sweet blanket, cribskirt, and matching rod pocket curtains. With a little bit of extra I made curtain ties and a cover for the changing table pad. So now everything matches in a green and yellow print of froggies and stripes.

I really like it and it actually means a lot to me that my little guy is warm under a blanket that I made for him. The best part is that I can easily make another for baby number two (someday).

Sew Much More

Well since I started this little project...the blog..I have mostly talked about and displayed crochet items. I also do other things as craft hobbies. I actually really like to sew.

One of my favorite projects to work on are ragtime quilts. These quilts are pretty fool proof because the effect of the frayed edges hides any crooked cutting! I love that! These projects so far for me have been all made from flannel and for various babies including my own.

Each time I have made one I have worked differently on the layering to try out various techniques. For some I have used quilt batting, and for others I have layered many layers of flannel. I am not sure which is my favorite method yet.

So as you can see you sew the quilts so that all your seams are too the right side of the fabric. Once that is done and your quilt is all together and quilted you then work on the fraying. This is done using a special pair of snippers (able to cut thick layers). You snip along all your seams. Then the fraying is done just by washing and drying your quilt.

All of the fraying gives the quilt a beautiful distressed and textured look. I have seen lots of projects done this way from pillows to bags to blankets. I love them. Another great fabric for this is denim. It's a great way to use up old jeans.

Alpaca Love

Today I finished a beautifully soft and thick scarf for a friend. She ordered it to give it out as a Christmas gift, and I am sure they're going to love it! For this scarf I used a yarn that I haven't used before, an alpaca and acrylic blend. Aside from a few shedding hairs, it is a really nice yarn to work with. I love how full and soft the scarf feels now. And I tried it on my neck...it's not too itchy which I was worried about.

I wrapped it up complete with a Thank you note and the washing instructions. I think it looks pretty good! Thanks Lindsay for the order.

Other than that I just did the usual house work which always keeps me busy. My floors really needed a good scrub. And I don't know how things can get so dusty in just a few days!

Well off to work on a few more projects.

Keep Them Warm!

Babies love to be swaddled up in a soft blanket as they sleep. However, as they are able to move their limbs more, it can be hard to keep the blanket wrapped snuggly around them. So as I was roaming the internet one day I thought of other ways to keep baby cozy and warm. I am working on fashioning a sewing pattern for this purpose as well...but I have come up with a crochetted item that was super easy to make.

A baby cocoon is a great item to put your baby it. They are warm, cozy, and oh-so-cute. I found a number of patterns online, but none that I was super excited about because they didn't include a hood. Most patterns are a sack to put baby in with a matching hat. They are cute too, but I what I really wanted to make was one with a head cover too.

So I came up with this pattern myself using a combination of patterns or skills that I have used before. The bottom half part is crochetted in rounds, then the top is stitched in rows and sewn together.

I am really happy with how it turned out since I put the idea together myself. Maybe someone out there as come up with a similar pattern, but I haven't found it yet.

I made the one pictured about for my friend whose baby was just born a few days ago. I hope she fits it and is able to use it.

I am going to play with this design a little more and look at aways to improve it. I hope you like it so far though. I call it Snug.

Babies

I have to say that I love babies! I always have. But there is one special baby that I love the MOST and that is my son who is almost 5 months old.

When I was pregnant I started to work on sewing and crocheting things for him. I made him a crib blanket, cribskirt, curtains, receiving blankets, etc and that cute little touque. Having him inspired me to make baby things and I love it.

Childrens patterns and fabric are so much fun. It makes me feel good just to look at all the bright colors and soft touch fabric.

He is the most special thing to me in the whole world. I love him so much.

Soon I will post more of the baby items I have made. Hopefully as I get going here I will be able to make more baby things. I have some ideas in mind for new items as well.

Touques For Babies Too

One thing that I have really enjoying making in the last few months is a touque for my little baby. He looks sooo cute in it.

I was visiting my mom one afternoon, and of course the baby is whisked out of my arms so she can kiss him 1 million times (her first grand-baby). So my hands were free. I dug through her yarn and within about 1 hour I had this beautiful little hat done. I just tried something from my head. I didn't use any specific pattern. I love the way it turned out. The ribbing makes it more textured and unique looking and regular weight yarn (not baby yarn) keeps it warm. The little extra bulk I think makes it even cuter.

Since then I have made one for a friend whose baby was just born a few days ago. I used the same design as the blue one, but I added a purple flower. It looks adorable.

Durango Hat

Here is a great hat that I love to make. Credit goes to Catherine Lindsay who designed it. I found her pattern at http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/. She has tons of patterns posted there that I love.

Anyway I find this hat very easy to work up and it looks awesome as a one or two toned hat. It may be hard to see in the photo but it actually has I bit of ribbing down the upper half of the hat. This gives it a unique look.

I have made lots of these as they have a great finished shape that flatters a lot of faces.

Totally Touques

When I first started to crochet, I began making touques right away. They were a great way to cover my not-so-styled hair dos during those university days. They worked well to cover my unwashed hair! (okay I only let it go one day).

Either way, right away I had a couple of classmates and friends ask me to make them some. And that winter I probably made 5 or 6. Pretty good for just starting out. It was around this time that my mom decided to get re-hooked and begin crochetting again. So I got to take my new skill and refresh hers.

Anyway this hat is just a basic double crochet hat. You can find the pattern that I learned with at http://www.headhuggers.com/. It's very easy, versatile and easy to make in different sizes. I added the flowers myself to had a little flare. So here are my "Happy Hats". And they easily go with the scarves of the same name. They are a very cute set.

I made the pink hats for a lady I worked with. She ordered them as gifts for her daughter and granddaughter. I had a ton of orders that winter (about 2 years ago)! Wow! By the end of the winter I was all crocheted out.

Touques are great as a fashion accessory but also as a way to stay warm. They can be made with almost any weight or type of yarn. I can make them to a length so they just sit over the ear, but also longer so that I rim can be flipped up.

Contrast edging, flowers, and ol'fashioned pom-poms are great accessories.

Quazy-quilt

Well I guess I could say "I did it"! I finally finished my first patchwork quilt project. I guess I have mixed feelings about it...I am not jumping for joy...but I am still happy I did it.

I started this project I think in September, because I have always loved quilts and wanted to make one. I found a great website http://www.icantbelieveim.com/ that has courses that you can take. So I watched all th videos and got to work on it.

I have to admit I got a little frustrated with it because it seemed like nothing was lining up the way it was supposed to. So I had to do to a lot of farting around. In the end...I don't think it will be winning any awards, but its done anyway. I am really happy that I made it and took the time to finish it even when I got discouraged.

I think part of the problem was/is that I am really tired. My baby doesn't sleep through the night so it's hard to get a decent sleep. This in turn leaves me impatient when things go a little wrong. Maybe it wasn't a good time to start a project, I don't know.

The value of the experience is really what matters. Usually I would have balled it all up and put it in the closet. But I saw it through and that's what counts. Plus it's made of so many different colors that when Cody lays on it he will have lots to look at.

I definitely think I will make more quilts in the future (I already like making ragtime ones). I think though now I know that I would work with bigger squares and just keep it simple. I am not planning on entering competitions anyways.

And well all those miss matched seams just make it more unique. It's pretty enough. Well...it's good looking from afar, but far from good looking!

Getting Hooked

I think I started crochetting about 6 years ago when I was about 21. I don't know what really got me intersted but I just decided it was something I wanted to try. Actually I think part of it was the fact that both of my grandmothers crochetted and I always thought it was cool how 1 long piece of yarn or thread could be made into so many things.

So one day I decided to ask my dad's mom to teach me. We spent the afternoon together which now is a wonderful memory for me. Although my grandma raised a big family (11 kids) she doesn't get much company and not many young people these days are interested in learning how to crochet either. So she gave me some green yarn and a hook and showed me what to do. It didn't take me long to catch on.

After that I bought a beginner book on crochet and went from there. My first couple of projects were scarves and touques and one long narrow afghan that I tried to make for my boyfriend (now hubby). Ahhh I guess the fact that the afghan sucked didn't matter.

So now 6 years later I still make touques scarves and other things. I keep my projects small for two main reasons 1) I don't have the attention span or patience for large things. 2) I like to crochet while I travel, and keeping it small means I can comfortably sit in the truck and crochet without having to lug a whole bunch of things along.

One of the nicest things about crochet projects I find is that they can be compact. Just grab your yarn, hook and pattern put it in a large ziploc bag and there you go. You can do it anywhere. In fact last summer while a friend and I suntanned she read a book and I made a poncho.

My grandma still crochets but this year she will be 89 so it's getting harder for her. Actually, her real talent is her natural, self taught ability to paint beautiful art. She is an amazing painter....I sure wish I would have inherited that trait. I can paint walls...that's about it!

Yarn it Up!

Okay so remember when I said "the possibilities are endless" earlier? Well when it comes to yarn that statement is very true (believe it or not) and I know I haven't even seen half of what is out there yet.

It's important for me to consider what type I want to use when I am making a project because the material really creates the overall piece. Also, by trying different yarns I have learned that I certainly detest certain types. For instance I don't like working with baby yarns. I find them hard to work with. Instead (to keep things soft for bambino) I use a regular weight but in a satin or soft finish. I find the completed project is so much nicer that way. Also, it gives me the opportunity to hunt for unique colors to use for baby rather than what's traditional.

So what types of yarn can you expect one of my projects to be made of? Here's a list of common finds that I currently use. But I am always searching.

Acrylic worsted weight- This is your standard "grandma made me slippers" yarn. It crochets a bit stiffer than others, but is still very comfy. It has a matte type finish. This type of yarn is very inexpensive. It washes up great too. I don't tend to use it as much for scarves because I like my scarves softer. But it is great for basic touques.

Satin or Softee finish- I love this yarn. A number of different companies make a similar product. It has a nice sheen to it. What I love about it is the smoothness and softness it has against the skin. It also makes items just a little more luxurious. You will find I most commonly use this material. It comes in a full rainbow of colors too.

Chunky yarns- Some heavier yarns are wonderful for an extra warm piece or just to add more texture and dimension. These can be fun to work with too. The look especially great in earth and natural tones.

Natural wools and fibers- At your request I will use this. I don't often because it can be very touchy for some people who have allergies. Also, it can be extra hard to launder. It makes beautiful pieces though.

Around Your Neck

There is no better way to stay warm (and stylish) than with a soft, fuzzy, woven scarf around your neck!
All of my scarves are made just using simple crochet stitches...really nothing too complicated. In fact, I choose to keep the actual stitching simple so that I can start and finish a scarf in a reasonable amount of time.
The fun comes from the endless designs that can be created using a variety of different yarns, colors, a combination of the two and by adding a simple accessory such a few buttons, a crocheted flower or lengths of fringe.

Scarf Styles:

Love: A nice wide scarf with warmth in mind! I usually make it approximately 50 inches long so you can wrap it up and stay toasty. The fringe finish keeps in playful! Can be made as a solid color or two-tone striped.

Happy: You cannot say this scarf isn`t cute! It`s just a simple scarf with a finished edge, but the best part is the flower embellishment on the end. The flowers are also crocheted and keep this scarf fun! Can be made as one solid color with contrast flowers or solid color with contrast flowers and edging.

Laugh: Get looped with this extra long scarf. It`s made a little on the skinny side to allow for the extra loopage! Usually it is made in one color. Fringe or flowers can be added.

Note: As I said before...I use just simple crochet stitches. I actually don`t have a pattern for each scarf because it`s just a repetitive stitch. I am not copying anyone, although anyone who crochets can easily make these.

What I love to do...

I believe in "the possibilities are endless". Well that's what I find myself thinking when I am standing in the middle of a fabric store, yarn isle, or fooling around with photos! Really sometimes I think it's a little bit of mania, and I really need to focus on one thing at one time.

The ways that I like to create:

- Crochet

-Sewing

-Photography

-Cooking

Why? I just like things that are homemade and customized. Also because I find I like to keep busy. I am not drawn to the t.v. to watch "reality t.v." (yeah because it's so realistic). I am not interested in that at all. In fact I find it so annoying that I usually just get mad.

So instead I do a lot of the things that I listed above. And so much more.

One time I was mentioning to someone at work during lunch that "I really need to make bread" another girl said with a disgusted tone "Ahhh how old are you"? So I answered (I was 26). She was just so...I don't know...surprised or something.

What? Should I be out partying at my age?

Should I be watching garbage on t.v. numbing my mind?

Should I be....I don't even know!

No, I think I should be doing exactly what I am doing...something that keeps me busy, entertained, healthy, happy, proud.

Maybe I am not like more girls these days. I am not sure...I think there are lots of people out there like me too. We're just not hitting the headlines... well unless I whip up a crochet string bikini!

I actually enjoy some of the easy things in life like just going for a walk down a gravelled road, walking in the fields (a live on a farm), being a farm girl, feeding the animals, loving animals, the smell of the outdoors. I actually like picking the eggs from the chicken coop. I like the smell of horses, and wrestling a little with my big dog. I like cutting the grass, and planting the garden. I like baking bread and making good food. I like quadding and getting muddy. And I like just laughing.

To be honest, I have struggled to be really happy most days for the the past 6 years. I just got really depressed in university and it's taken me this long to not have such crappy days. I think I owe a lot to just doing things I love and letting my mind wander...escape...from the less happy things in life.

So I do what some would call"old ladyish" things at my age...big deal...I love it.

Welcome to Hannana-Banana's!

Welcome to Hannana Banana's. This is my new place. I am actually keeping a blog right now to document the first year with my new (and first born) son Cody. I have to admit that I started a blog in the past but I just didn't have the drive I needed to keep it going. However, when Cody came along I felt quite driven to write about our first year together. Becoming a mommy has been wonderful and I love blogging about our weeks together.

But now I want to start a little blog just for me and the creative things I do on a daily basis. I have been inspired my one of my closest friends. I have seen the beautiful blog she has created and I want one too! I hope that I can develop a place where I can showcase the things that I have handmade and hopefully gain many visitors along the way. I also hope that this new blog will be a great way to generate some income. Who knows...could this become a full time venture???!!! How wonderful would it really be to work from home...

I regularly work full time as an Occupational Therapist in long term care. And truthfully I love my job. I love having to think on my feet, be challenged and help people who have experienced many losses, mainly the loss their independence in one way or another. As an O.T. in a small rural town, you have to be creative. So it's no wonder that it's that same creativity within me that occupies my mind when I get home. Sometimes the "idea" gears in my head are turning so much I cannot get to sleep!

Well anyway, here it goes! This is the jumping off point. Where I land...if I do...nobody knows...
